Curious Caterpillars - Toddler

Our toddler room helps children enjoy the challenges of a learning environment planned to provide endless opportunities.

With activities for individuals and for groups, children are encouraged to develop early learning skills in language, communication, social skills, movement, and an interest in the world around them. We also devleop an understanding of shape, space, numbers and literacy through our circle time activities. Our self registration activity really encourages development of the childrens understanding of their own identities.

We believe in the highest standards in childcare and Preschool Education, ensuring the very best start for your child, and peace of mind for you.

Activities

Woodpeckers Nursery provides a well-planned programme that helps children achieve their maximum potential.

A day at Woodpeckers Nursery includes one-to-one sessions, group learning, music, computers, drama, creative activities, forest school trips, outdoor activities and mainly learning through free play. Broadly we look at the whole child, make observations about the children, and use them to plan activities for individuals and groups of children to extend their learning experiences.

Your toddler & medical care

We strive to deal with any medical problems your child may have. We work alongside doctors and medical health professionals as well as taking on extra training for staff if this is needed. This would also involve working closely with parents and carers.

Two year checks

As of September 2012, it is a statutory requirement for practitioners to complete a two year old progress check for children in their care. This is a review of the child’s progress and a summary of their development (EYFS, 2012). This enables us to share our views of your child's development with you and health visitors. If needed, we can also gain advice and guidance from other external professionals to help support your child's learning and development.

Two year old funding

Some families will be entitled to two year old funding. This enables you to access 15 hours (term time only) or 11 hours (stretched across the year) of childcare per week. You can check if you are eligible by clicking on the following link: Early education for 2 year olds

If you have already received a Golden Ticket please bring this along with you when registering for a place with us.

You do not need a Golden ticket to apply but will need to bring along supporting evidence of your eligibility.

*Due to the changes in Government funding we are having to charge for food and extra activities.

Please contact us if you would like to come and visit. Spaces are dependent on the availability that we have at the time of your enquiry.

Starting your journey at Woodpeckers

Making your choice for your child's care and education is very important. We understand that this choice needs to be considered carefully. Early years settings all offer different things. Here at Woodpeckers we pride ourselves on our family run setting that creates a nurturing environment for your little ones to grow and develop within.

Come and see our setting

Making your decision depends on a feeling that you get for somewhere. Let us give you a personal tour of our setting where we will tell you all about Woodpeckers. You can meet the staff, view our rooms, see our outdoor area and take the opportunity to ask us questions. Your children are welcome to accompany you too. Please call us to arrange a viewing.

What happens next?

We will invite you to attend an introduction visit and arrange settling visits. Home visits are also offered. Each child is different as to how they settle but we work with you to ensure this happens in the best way for you all.

We work using the key person approach. Each child deserves to have a special relationship with someone within the nursery and the key person approach effectively celebrates this. It provides you and your child with a sense of security. We will allocate a key person after initial visits to our setting.

Reassurance

We know that it is hard to leave your little ones but you can always stay in touch with us. We also record snapshots and observations of how your child has settled, plays and develops with us through electronic learning journals. These allow you and your family to see what they get up to when they are with us. Daily diaries are completed and travel to and from nursery with your child. Most importantly, it is our partnership with you, the parents and carers. We strive to create trusting relationships and great communication so that we can best support your child's journey with us.
