Quality childcare staff

Our staff range in age and experience. Jeff is a trained teacher with many years experience in Primary Schools. In his last school he was Deputy Head before setting up the nursery with Deirdre. Deirdre also has experience in Primary school, as a teaching assistant, and with other staff has a level 4 qualification, as well as starting a Foundation degree.

Many staff have been chosen for their caring personalities and aptitude for working with children. Many of us have also had the experience of raising our own children, and even caring for grandchildren.

Qualified childcare staff

Many staff have now completed NVQ level 3 training through West Suffolk College whilst working with us, and others are training at present.

Early years professional status

Two valued members of our staff; Emily Porter and Hannah Castle both hold degrees and are now qualified in  the Early Years Professional Status. Their knowledge and training is a huge asset to Woodpeckers Nursery.

We all want the best for our children. That’s why we need the best people to help them develop and why we at Woodpeckers embrace the  Early Years Professional Status (EYPS).

EYPS enables people working with children under the age of five to demonstrate the excellence of their personal practice and their ability to lead the practice of others.

Special Needs Childcare at Woodpeckers Nursery in Sudbury, Suffolk

The role of the SENCO is crucial for early years settings in supporting early identification and intervention for children with special educational needs.

The SENCO is responsible for maintaining a setting's recording and documentation process with respect to special educational needs, liaising and working with the parents, securing training for workers and liaising with outside agencies with respect to a child's SEN.

We have two dedicated staff who are SENCO trained.

Health, safety & child protection
You can rely on Woodpeckers Nursery to provide day care and after school care in a safe environment

All staff hold First Aid and Food Hygiene certificates, and undertake child protection training. We actively encourage staff toward further training to help maintain our high standards and maintain continuous development.

All staff and volunteers are checked through the Criminal Records Bureau with enhanced disclosures before being able to work at Woodpeckers.

Students also have a similar check through the college before training with us and are constantly supervised.

Key people

Each child is allocated a Key Person who will work closely with them and be a link for you. If the key person is away on holiday or sick, then a buddy will be there to support your child. We never use agency staff, which is reassuring for parents and children, as they will always have familiar faces throughout their time with us.

A family run nursery

As a family run nursery with Deirdre and Jeff actively involved on a daily basis you will also always have the assurance of high standards and our best attention at all times.

Woodpeckers Nursery in Sudbury provide quality, professional childcare and pre school nursery education along with After School and Holiday Care which is fun, and gives you the assurance your child is looked after within a secure, caring and supportive environment.
