Woodpeckers
Nursery
is set
on the
edge of
Sudbury
in Suffolk
beside
the
water
meadows,
in a
Georgian
style
building
fully
adapted
to
provide
a happy,
secure
and
caring
environment
to help
your
child's
development
at every
stage.
As a family concern both
Jeff and Deirdre, the proprietors of Woodpeckers, take an active
part in the day to day running of the nursery. They like to be on
hand to meet parents and children, and help form the working
relationship which will support your child through to school age and
beyond.
Over the years the
facility has grown, and now provides the educational stages listed
on our website pages.

The Early
Years Foundation Stage
|
| The EYFS for 0 - 5 year olds
came into place in September 2008. At Woodpeckers our staff
took part in the 2008 Pilot Training Scheme, as well as
further training since. There are four principal themes: |
| :: Unique Child |
| :: Positive Relationships |
| :: Enabling Environments
|
| :: Learning and the
Environment |
| Broadly we look at the whole
child, make observations about the children, and use them to
plan activities for individuals and groups of children to
extend their learning experiences. Records and assessments
are kept of each child's progress, and these are shared
regularly with the parents so as to encourage a partnership
between parents, carers and the child to support their
learning. |
|
|
| Key Practitioners |
| Suffolk County Council supports the
development of high quality early education in a variety of ways.
This includes support, advice and guidance from the area educational
teams and comprehensive training programme. A number of
practitioners have been identified who have strengths in a
particular area, these are called Key practitioners. We use elements
of their good practice to share with colleagues. Deirdre
Micklewright is our Baby Room leader and is a key practitioner for
ages 0 - 5. Other settings visit us to see this good practice in
operation in all areas of the nursery including The Hideout, our out
of School club for 5 - 12 years. |

Your Baby & Medical Care |
|
We strive to deal with any medical
problems your child may have. We work alongside doctors and medical
health professionals as well as taking on extra training for staff
if this is needed. This would also involve working closely with
parents and carers.
|
|
Breast Feeding & Weaning |
|
In the day care baby room we actively encourage
mums to continue breast feeding if they wish to do so. If work is
close by then mum can pop in for a feed before returning to work or
visit during a lunch break. We have excellent links with the Health
Centre where
BFN supporters are on hand with advice.
Staff are all trained in the "Baby
Led Weaning" and are happy to help with any advice. |
| |
|
A Homely Environment |
| The babies are cared for and nurtured
in a very cosy environment that has been designed to feel like a
home from home. Warm lighting, comfortable bedding, soft toys and
loving staff all make for an ideal setting for your baby in day
care. |
| |
|
As Baby Grows |
| Although each baby has a key person
all staff work very closely together with all the babies. As they
grow each baby will move to the caterpillar room (after lots of
settling visits) at their own pace. There is no set age, only when
they are ready together with the parents. |
